A Christian critique of Scientology
Aug 27th, 2008 | By Chris Ray | Category: FeatureWe’ve all heard about this strange new religion, this almost science fiction-like organization that worships its dead founder, blames all misfortune on some invading ‘force’ that came into our world millennia before any of us were born, demands money from all of its followers, has a long history of harassing and persecuting apostates, and has an obsessive fear of modern medical science, particularly where psychiatry is concerned. Today I sat down with one of these Christians and talked to him about Scientology.
“Scientology isn’t a religion, it’s a business,” he told me. “Look, it has a strictly-regulated hierarchical structure with a small leadership core- a secretive board of directors, an executive director, a bunch of subsidiaries and underlings that have to do everything that the layer of leadership above them tells them to do. I’m just glad that the College of Cardinals had the good sense to elect a Pope with the courage to stand up to all these New Agey, postmodern cults.”
“Off to a good start,” I muttered.
“And look at their ridiculous cosmology! Why would anyone believe that a superpowerful galactic overlord named Xenu flew a bunch of DC-8s around the galaxy millions of years ago? And all Scientologists are required to accept this by a certain stage of their development within Scientology. Obviously, the truth is that there is one God whose name is Yahweh, who comes in exactly three parts (not two or four), and who had exactly one son named Jesus who died for our sins two thousand years ago and if we don’t surrender to him by telepathy, we’ll be on fire forever.
“That’s just Church doctrine,” he told me. I nodded and scribbled furiously.
“And then they talk about these engrams,” he continued with a scoff. “I mean, come on. Who’s going to believe that all misfortune is because of some outside magical force invading our universe millennia ago? Sin is because of us, not because of some ambiguously powerful, external “Enemy” blasting evil at us! That just wouldn’t make any sense. Why would a loving God let engrams into the world in the first place?”
“Um, maybe we should talk about something else. I mean, what about the endless harassment of apostates? They do that, right?”
“Right, exactly. No matter who you are, if you’re an apostate from Scientology, they will hunt you down. They will harass you, they will harass your family, they will cost you your job, sometimes they will even threaten you with violence. Wait, hold on, I’m getting a text message.” My Christian friend paused and looked at his vibrating cell phone, then pumped his arm in the air and yelled “Praise Jesus!”
“What happened?” I asked him, curiously trying to peer over the screen of his phone.
“Webster Cook just got impeached. Ex-Catholic blasphemer got exactly what he deserved. Anyways, what was I saying?”
“Something very, very sad.”
“Oh, yes, that’s right, apostates. But I mean what’s worse is Scientology’s opposition to modern medical science. They treat psychiatry like it’s some kind of pernicious, evil force, and certainly as if it were unscientific. Psychiatry might be completely misguided, but I think that Scientology is just spouting propaganda about its moral intent.”
“Wait, did you say ‘completely misguided?’”
“Well, yeah, I mean, how many psychiatrists do you see who treat the real cause of mental illness?”
I raised an eyebrow. “Which is?”
“Demons.” He nodded sternly. “At least, most of the time. OK, at least some of the time.”
“Heh, yeah, I gotcha.” I was busily drawing a profile of John Travolta on my paper. “At least you guys don’t believe in superpowers.”
“Right. The Scientologists think that you can control even the salinity of your own body, and can do other magical things relating to your health, just by believing. They even have silly little magic devices called E-meters to help diagnose your potential for magic powers.” He smiled and rearranged his rosary bracelet. “They should come to some of my weekly meetings to see the real power of the Lord.”
“Um… and what is that, exactly?” I asked carefully, bracing myself for a sneezing fit. “The ‘real’ power of the Lord, I mean.”
“Speaking in tongues, healing by laying on hands, casting out demons. You know, real miracles.” He gave another rather self-assured nod. “Anyways, the biggest shame is how much money they make people pay to be a Scientologist. At least our tithes are voluntary.”
“But what about indulgences?”
“Oh, we stopped those a long time ago,” he said with a blissful smile. “Don’t you know anything about Church history?”
Finally, I just sighed, set down my pencil, and rested my forehead in my palm. “OK, look. You guys ask for tithes, Scientology charges a fee. You guys believe in magic healing, Scientology believes in superpowers. You guys harass your followers and reject medical science, Scientology will kill you, ruin you, or at least let you go insane by denying treatment to the mentally ill. I know you’re a Catholic, but imagine how much worse some of the parallels would be if you were a Christian Scientist or something? You guys love to rail on the evils of cults and dangerous religious groups, but can’t it be said that you guys are just a softcore form of Scientology? Your beliefs are just as ridiculous. Your rituals are just as bizarre. The only difference is that Scientology is better at using courts and cronies to silence critics.”
“You know, there’s a word for people like you.”
“What’s that?”
“Suppressive person.”
The moral of the story is this. Christians worship a man who said “before you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye, pay attention to plank in your own.” And their eyes may be awash in sawdust, but Scientology will kill you for reading this.

There are some differences though. The catholic church does not force you to have an abortion (at least not that i’m aware of).
Scientology has prisoncamps for it’s followers who done something wrong (RPF). Scientology has their own secret service (Sea Org). I mean, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, but a secret service for a faith?
Scientology has child slavery. Scientology does not believe in a deity. Unless you want to call money a deity. To them, Jesus is just a figment of the imagination. The catholic church asks for tithes, but they will not bleed you dry. Scientology will take everything you have, and then some more.

For a moment I wasn’t certain if the above statement was describing modern Christianity, or Scientology… turns out it was about Scientology, how amusing. They’ve only been sucking the money from the people’s wallets for about fifty years, whereas you’ve had hundreds and hundreds… why spoil their fun so soon?

Ronbot is a pejorative term for some or all fanatical followers of Scientology. The term is a pun on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s first name and the word robot.
The term Ronbot is meant to express the habit of Scientologists of being so programmed with the “Tech” that they can’t express their own viewpoints on life, because that has been suppressed and prohibited of them from doing so.
The fanatical Ronbot never doubts any thing he is told by staff, never investigates, never thinks beyond what he is told, never seeks to know more than he is permitted to know, never refuses to turn on his family, never reads what he is told not to read, never refuses to hurt the feelings of his family, never refuses to kill the love he had for his family, never refuses to go to your neighbors to spread lies about you, never doubts PTS or SP data, never seeks other ways to heal any symptom, never wonders why he is so fanatical and why? Never wonders why he hates SPs, never refuses to hurt, damage or harm an SP, never doubts he is superior to us, never refuses to obey his masters on staff, etc.
The fanatical Ronbots that guard the military bases and navy of Scientology are ordered to kill or shoot at any SP or ordinary intruder that comes near or invades their ships or bases, even if it is their own parents who go there to get them out. He is so robotic that the killing of his own parent will not produce the same mental effect that it would produce in us – if we killed our own father or mother, whose only crime was the hurt of disconnection ordered by the Anti-God cult.
Ex-scientologists view a fanatical anti-god Ronbot as a brainwashed Robot, since he can’t ever leave the Tech and express his own view points.
His reading material, his TV viewing and his interpersonal relationships and what he says and the way he talks, are closely monitored by other Ronbot Staff. If they discover that he went out with or talked with an SP and read material from Anti-cult websites, he is in deep trouble and must now face an ethics review.
He in fact does not have his own viewpoints, but just thinks so. His mind is so flooded with the Tech that to speak to, associate with, date or love a person who is classed as an SP is instant insanity (drastic down-tone slide) and he will be classed by the Anti-God Cult as a “risk” or PTS.
Remember this fact—that all true fanatical Ronbots have a weak mind and spirit, no matter their IQ or years of word clearing. They are actually very willing to be a slave of the Tech without question.

The fanatical Ronbot was told that “suppression is illness and illness is suppression”, therefore he thinks that all illnesses come only from suppression or a PTS condition.
Remember that Ronbots are told that “all illnesses to a greater or lesser degree are due to only a PTS condition”. Any illness or symptom makes a fanatical Ronbot turn on anyone he was near in the past 72 hours. He is programmed to believe that his Mother or Father now is a Monster called a“SP” or “Suppressive Person.
He is never given the facts on “symptom re-stimulations”. He is never told about it being a physiological reaction, he is never told that all symptoms and illnesses are physiological reactions and that some symptoms can be re-stimulated by stress and arguments. And those symptoms are never the same for all; because every one has different deficiencies and different levels of toxins in their body that will always bring out a different symptom each time he is argued with.
Remember this one fact that Scientology rejects—“symptoms are not illnesses!” But Ronbots are never taught the true causes of real illnesses, and are trained to despise their parents when they get a symptom of a real illness. Symptoms can be re-stimulated by many real causes of illnesses even by stress—which in the cult is accepted by the brain-washed ronbots as “suppression”.
Scientology NEVER teaches Ronbots that symptoms are really physiological reactions of all life on Earth.
A physiological reaction is an effect of some cause. The real causes of all illnesses produce the symptom.
They use this brain-washing about symptoms, in order to control them and make them hate whoever opposes the cult.
In his weak fanatical brain-washed mind, he can’t ever accept that legal and illegal drugs, chemicals, parasites, toxins, toxic plants, mutated foods, Nuked (irradiated) Foods, or poisonous animals or insects, poisons, viruses or bacteria or over acidity etc., are the only and true causes of illnesses in the world. His mind rejects these well known facts as SP propaganda.
When he faces you in the street—he can’t see you, he can only see what is programmed into his brain-washed head. To him, you are the SP monster who is no better than his SP father or SP mother he turned his back on and now hates and/or distrusts.
He is not free to think for himself–therefore he is a ronbot.
It is senseless to argue or fight with a Ronbot—he needs de-programming—he needs to be told he is a Robot and that he can’t pull the plug and reset his brain. Do not confront a Ronbot the old way – just pity him and dare him to talk with you about how Physiological Reactions are connected to study tech.
Dare him to have a friendly conversation with you—the more of a Ronbot he is – the more he will be afraid to go to ethics for daring to talk with an SP.
The fact that is easily proved is that he is really SCARED to have a friendly conversation with you – to him you are a suppressive person – to him you are a MONSTER – the kind of monster his cowardly mind could not face in his nightmares.
The Anti-God cult will threaten any person with total exposure of all their confessed sins and secrets, if you dare leave, EXPOSE or confront them. That is the weapon that controls ALL CELEBRITIES, PROFESSIONALS AND COWARDS. The weak have given up their soul and now find that their confessions of their own sins and deep dark secrets — will be made public knowledge.
In every confrontation with Ronbots, the programming that he has received will force him to ask for your sins and secrets. He sincerely believes that you are against the Cult, ONLY because you have sins of omission and commission.
Explain to him that he has sins and secrets too and that you would like to know his first, since he brought up the issue first. But don’t ask to hear them as a threat or condition to talk with him—if he refuses to give you his own sins and secrets—let it pass as long as he is willing to talk with you. Just get him to talk!!!
Warning!!! The Ronbot is trained to illegally set-you up as per SP policy and fair game rules and be able to call for the police to get you arrested. If he attacks you or looks like he will, turn your back and let him attack you when your back is turned. Put your hands in your pockets and never let them out. If you are going up against them have the incident filmed and documented. He will viciously insult you and scream at you and even bump and push you with his stomach or chest to make you lose control and get arrested. When he bumps you — fall down and call for the police, because he has just assaulted you and caused you to fall and hurt yourself. Do not argue with or insult a Ronbot, talk with him in a polite way even if he disgusts you. Arguments are commercial Controversies and make you lose the game. Get him to identify who he is and find out if he has property (House) or a website. He if is connected to any website that libels your actual name on it—he just made you rich. If he assaults you and you can prove it –he also made you very rich. Read the Uniform Commercial Code, commercial laws or common law remedies, Commercial Affidavit of Truth Method, notary acceptor and look up sovereignty UCC or anti-corruption websites to learn how to counter-attack them and take them for all they are worth.
After you study the UCC, hire a Private Investigator to find out who owns or runs the website. Write them thru a Notary third party witness and accept all their attacks on your name for value. That is the way to become a true RONBOTHUNTER. Thru the “Commercial Affidavit of Truth Method” — You can bring your common-law commercial suits against any Ronbot and the Cult itself, who is used by the Cult to harm you. Under the Constitution –You are the Law. You don’t need attorneys or judges or courts to file a UCC lien on them — once you PERFECT your UCC lien.
Know this for a fact. — His brain is not his anymore. He can’t be proactive and dare to talk with a person who he was told is a MONSTER. But if he dares to talk and you only ask questions and never argue with him. He will begin to doubt and you know what happens to him after he is in the Condition of Doubt.
He is as evolved as a snail-or he was one in another life. In this life, he consented to be a mind-slave. Just dare him to read and dare him to talk with any anti-cult person on a friendly basis for at least one hour—dare him to get to know you–by then after that hour he is now a damaged ronbot to the cult—he won’t be trusted and now he is on his way to freedom from control.
For you to defeat the Anti-God “Church” of Scientology you must expose these truths about how Ron discovered Study Technology.
Once you put this NEW DATA into his brain, he is now damaged goods and is no longer a Ronbot, but a suspected PTS person never to be trusted again by the Cult.

What an excruciating interview. Kudos! The best part is when you show him the parallels between his beliefs and the beliefs of the Scientologists. Bravo. Oh and “Submissive person” is a phrase, not a word. I’m sure you knew that, but I guess it would be stirring the pot more to call your interviewee out once again.

There is of course no denying the parallels between both Christianity and Scientology, and their inherent fallacies, but something about this interview irks me. You’ve allow the person you’ve interviewed to speak a lot about something that we pretty much understand and know, displaying once again the problems in their belief. But I think you’ve failed to ask him or press questions that would promote some sort of discussion. It is one thing to play to your audience who would wholly agree with you, myself included, it is another too see common ground (both sides rejecting Scientology), and also differences between you and your interviewee. Discuss those issues. What exactly does he think about the atheist/skeptic assessment of Scientology? Maybe it would be a great way for this Catholic gain some understanding of atheism. Judging by the your stream of questions at the end of the interview, and by your apparent smugness between answers, you seem to have attacked him before he even had a word in edgewise. You’ve put him on the defense before you actually had a civil conversation. That I do not believe is a successful interview. This is a problem is it not? Yes we can all agree on Mr. Jay’s stance on the issue, but what good does that do in the end result? Displaying Irony? Yes that’s what the interview demonstrates. But its missing a depth that Mr. Jay would’ve achieved if he hadn’t fallen into, what I think to be, arrogance. Of course the other side can be guilty of the same, but judging by his willingness to share it seems unlikely in this interview. Even if he were, would butting heads bring anything? Except maybe another anecdote about a poor pathetic religious fanatic with whom you fought?
What I’m saying is is that I’m expecting more. And I wish this doesn’t turn into a Yes factory to the causes we believe in, but something more substantial.

LOLWUT? Nowhere is this rant a part of official Church Doctrine. “Surrender to him by telepathy?” I think you’re thinking of the Fundamentalists. But seriously, that not the core dogma of Catholicism, or even an accurate part of it. There is no mention made of the sacraments, or of purgatory, or of how no one but God knows who will be saved or not. Just because there are a few… I’d call this person a “kook,” who believes whatever he wants, does not mean that is the official dogma of the Church.

…where, exactly, does the Catechism of the Catholic Church say this? This is a load of faggotry. Nowhere does the Church say that demons are the source of psychiatry ills. On the contrary, before a person is submitted for exorcisms, they usually undergo months or even years of physical and psychiatric evaluation. Only if no medical diagnosis can be made is an exorcism even considered. They are very rare, and are taken with utmost seriousness.

Sweet Xenu… you are kidding me, right? RIGHT? Sweet Tinkerbell Jeebus. Show me a practicing Catholic, even a charismatic one, who believes in that televangelist showmanship “speaking in tongues” bullshit, and I’ll post tits. Again, you’re thinking of FUNDAMENTALISTS. Not CATHOLICS. There IS a difference, and a pretty fucking large one.
While this fictional interview does raise some salient points about religious hypocrisy and the dangers of Scientology, it grossly misrepresents mainstream Catholicism and distorts its dogmas. When you judge a religion, you have to judge it on its doctrines, not on its (ultimately fallible) parishioners. This is why Scientology, with things like “Fair Game” hardwired into its core teachings, falls short of its claim to religion.
TL;DR- The interviewee is not a Roman Catholic, but an Evangelical Fundamentalist. Scientology is fail because its abuses are the fault of its corrupt doctrines, not due to separate abuses by its members. Also, The Game.
