Tauriq is a final year Psychology and English major at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He is the spokesperson for the the local Atheist & Agnostic Society, having debated pastors, imams and various other mumbo-jumbo merchants for a large audience. He has written for a number of publications, including: Skeptic Magazine (US), Sceptic (SA), New Contrast, and various local newspapers. He is also a contributor to Counterknowledge (counterknowledge.com), "exposing conspiracy theories, quack medicine, bogus science and fake history" He also fights "fashionable nonsense" as part of Butterflies & Wheels (butterfliesandwheels.com), writing articles on overzealous BS. He has appeared on radio representing atheism and humanism. He has a particular love of science, rationality, logic and Western philosophy. He has close contacts with many leading South African philosophers, scientists and religious figures. He hopes to represent the growing number of anti-religious freethinkers in South Africa proudly - especially the minority of ex-Muslims. He believes that studying and, more importantly, understanding human behaviour, we can bridge the gaps of unreason that march between our divided species. He believes heartily in Bertrand Russell's view: "Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind."
